About Wolcott
A town on the shores of Lake Ontario, Wolcott was a major iron ore smelting area in the 1800s. The rusted remains of Walcott Furnace can be seen north of the town. The area's primary industry has always been agriculture, with the rich soil around the town suitable for all sorts of fruit and crops.

The town was settled by New England families who named the town after the 4th Governor of Connecticut, Oliver Walcott, a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. The town was created from the town of Junius in nearby Seneca County in 1810 and the towns of Butler, Huron and Rose were created from Walcott territory in 1826.
