About Wrangell
The city of Wrangell lies on the northern point of Wrangell Island in the Alaskan Panhandle. Its primary settlement began with the Stikine Tlingit who migrated down the Stiking River. It the early 1800's, Russia began trading fur. The city was named after the island which was - in turn - named after Baron Ferdinand Petrovich Wrangel who was administrator for Russian America. The population has gone up and down, but has steadily increased from 800 to now more than 2,300. It has a quite history with many tourist attractions including the Nolan Center Museum and the Wrangell Petroglyph Beach State Parl.
